My computer is supposed to be updating from 1809 to 1903 right now – however for the past 20 or so minutes it has been stuck at 27% “Working on Updates”.
So here’s my question: What do I do? Can I cancel the update? Is there anything I can do to fix the update and get it going again?
Or will it be stuck like this forever and all of my files, applications, etc. gone?
Hardware:
Mushkin Chronos 500gb SSD for Windows installation
1TB Samsung 850EVO SSD
2TB Seagate SSHD
GTX 980Ti
i7-4790k
28GB DDR3 ram
I have a Plugable Docking station which I use as a USB hub, if that is relevant.
I also have a server (Western Digital MyCloud) on my home network which I use for file storage. I’ve heard external storage can cause issues for this particular update. Could this cause any problems?
Sometimes it might get stuck. But if it is painful, you can always restart your system. To have a successful upgrade, you should upgrade to 1903 through Media creation tool. Execute the below steps to go to 1903
1. Windows Key+X > Windows Powershell (Admin)
Type following (or copy and paste following) one by one and Enter
2. A. Take a backup of your computer before you proceed.
B. Disable any third party Antivirus (After update is successful, you can enable it again)
C. You can go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo…
You can download the latest Windows 10 package from this link (media creation tool) and follow the instructions there to upgrade. Use the very simple instructions given under Using this tool to upgrade this PC to Windows 10
