Windows 10 – Disable “fn” lock?

I recently got a new laptop. It seems to have some sort of feature that has the “fn” key toggled. Instead of having to press it and a F key it automatically uses the function of that key. Makes it a little annoying when playing games. Accidentally hitting F1 minimizes the game and opens help. Or having to hold fn to use an F key. I’ve searched the options and online but can’t seem to find anything. It’s not major. it’s just annoying. The laptop is an HP AY039WM and it is running Windows 10 Home.

To disable, or enable, the function key (fn) in the BIOS, do the following steps.

  1. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
  2. Press the f10 key to open the BIOS setup window. (On newer computers, you need to hold down the “esc” key. Then you can opt to go into the BIOS settings.)
  3. Use the right-arrow or left-arrow keys to navigate to the System Configuration option.
  4. Use the up-arrow or down-arrow keys to navigate to the Action Keys Mode option, and then press the “enter” key to display the Enable / Disable menu.
  5. Select the desired mode
