Q. In the previous version of Windows, you could hold Alt-Tab to switch between open programs, and then release Alt-Tab to switch to that program.
In Windows 10, however, I have found that in Microsoft Office (2007) programs, I have to press Alt-Tab twice to switch to another program.
For example, previously when switching from one open Excel workbook to another, I would hold Alt and press Tab once to switch, whereas now I have to press Tab twice. The same is true if I want to switch from Excel to say Firefox. This only seems to happen with Office. If I want to switch from (for example) iTunes to Firefox, I just hold Alt and press Tab once?
Answer.
The following process, worked for me.
After trawling Google, I found a fix that has worked for me ever since and brought the Alt-Tab UI from Windows XP into Windows 10.
- Open Registry Editor (Win+R followed by regedit)
- Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
- Create a new 32-bit DWORD value named AltTabSettings and set it to 1
- Sign out and sign back in again (or restart)
